Francesca Miazzi
2023
In the attempt to transcend the bodily sphere, the work taps into the digital, the physical, and the psychic. The AI images obtained from the documentation of a pole dance performance become a journey through different dimensions -or one that feels like many (idea of backrooms). The conscious/unconscious mind thus produces an almost plausible imagery, a chain of non-events leading to an awakening -spiritual event or a dream's climax? The pole links one world to another; it is a tool for ascension -and trancenscion between floors-, stretching towards the holy beams of neon lights.
About the artists:
Francesca Miazzi (Italy, 1997) graduated with a BA in Design from NABA in Milan. In 2022 she obtained a MFA at Sandberg Instituut (Dirty Art Department) in Amsterdam, where she is currently based. Through performance, sculpture, and video she explores alternative beliefs about the body and its functioning while navigating healing practices that blur the line between the physical and the psychic. By bringing to light the historically and intrinsically subversive aspects of such processes, her work aims to present healing as an act of both organic and political resistance.
